MX Newspaper: "Overheard" Quote of the Week

At peak times in Melbourne train stations, a free newspaper called the "MX" is handed out to commuters to give them something to read on the way home. At the back, there's a little section called "Overheard", populated by snippets of conversation people overhear that are, most of the time, quite amusing.

This feature, however, was not in the paper - this one I overheard as I was getting off at Melbourne Central station one day.

Gothic girl on phone: "Yeah, yeah. I'm fairly sure I know where to get everything else, but where, where do I find some prosthetic intestines?"

God help us all.

The first two may often lead to the latter; whether in combination or not, I don't know. Someone care to find that out for me?

Dear god, I've not uploaded anything to my gallery in a while. A painfully long while, at that. Nor have I actually managed to pay attention to my devWatch - lately, however, both have been quite literally impossible. I recently spent a short stint in hospital for a minor surgical procedure, just to get a small anomaly fixed. Of course, that's left me somewhat home-bound and on a secondary note, somewhat unable to use a computer for any great lengths of time. Which, in turn, has negated most things creative on my part.

In short: RAGE. Intermittent amounts and interspersed with not-so-raging moments, but rage nonetheless. Somewhat.

Prior to the past week, however (went under the knife last Tuesday), I've been trying my hand at creating and remixing trance music. Or at least, something vaguely resembling trance music at some point during its production. I've yet to get my hands on a software package which can both alter and sequence sound in the manner I want and can interface properly with my keyboard synthesizer. Thankfully I was just pointed in the right direction with regard to the latter program, so once I can use a computer again, we'll see where that leads me.

Spur-of-the-moment Trance artist plugs!

OCEANLAB: A trio (and partly quartet) of British electro music artists, who (minus vocalist Justine Suissa) also form the incredibly popular trance group Above & Beyond. They produce probably the best trance music I've listened to thus far, and while I'm relatively new to appreciating the genre, the combination of Justine and the guys from A & B is something very close to impossibly amazing. Even if you're not a trance fan, listen to them. It'll be a treat.

ATB: I can't rememeber this guy's actual name (those are his initials), but his mixes are of appreciably high quality and some have quite interesting compositions. Not quite as amazing as Oceanlab, but worth a listen anyhow.

Blank & Jones: The surnames of both artists form the name of this trance duo, whose majority discography I recently became aware of. While vocals are not terribly prevalent in their work, they've produced some of the most intoxicating dance and trance music I've heard. Despite the booming bass beat after beat, their work is surprisingly good to relax to. I'd probably rate these two above ATB.

I had some kind of closing note. I know I did. But, like victory for the Soviet Union, it has escaped. FIND IT, COMRADES!

'Till next time, aufweidersehn.

Hello there. Don't know if you remember me, but you were one of the few people who commented on some of my earliest works here on DA. I was pretty brash and stubborn to your advice, but hell, can't say that you could expect much of anything accepting from a naive 14 year old who thinks her artwork is "the best ever made". I'm here to thank you for your advice and critique that I wasn't so accepting of in the past, unfortunately for me. So again, thank you so very kindly. It's artists like you who make me smile. :)

Hey, Mitsu. 'Course I remember you - wasn't too long ago that we met on here. Ah, no worries. I was like that when I was 14, as well; reckoned my artwork was too good to be critiqued. The naivety of kids can be amusing sometimes. But hey, thanks for hitting me up - that last line made me smile. :)

:iconmitsukoxd:
No prob! I probably would've done so sooner, if I had been able to summon enough courage to glimpse at some of my first deviations, but hey, at least it reminds me that I improved....which is the only good thing you can derive from such an experience. XD You're improved as well; your photography is bloody fantastic. And thank you! I'm glad it made you smile. That's what I'm here for.

Hey, do you know if Owen's OK? He hasn't been on here for a while...
:iconnightice:
Owen? Saw the man not the other week; spent the day with him. He's all good - but as for why he's not on here, that has me beat. Mayhap he's got other things on his plate atm; I don't know. My plate is overflowing so I lose track of others'.

OK, that's cool. Thanks a lot, I was just beginning to worry.

Hope you clear up whatever's on your plate though :)

Hey I read the mX :P I live in Melbourne too xD Sometimes by the time I get out of school, they're all gone so I read it while sitting next to someone on the train, but they don't notice because I glance at it occasionally.

Do you remember this quote, I think it was a few days ago, but it was about animal cruelty.. It went something like this:
"Eating animals is okay. But taking their food, nah that's just cruel."

if you could remember, that would be great :P

I-I'm sorry, you just lost the game again. :c
:iconnightice:
Yeah, by the time I hit Melb Central station after uni on some days, they're gone too. But generally some kind soul leaves one on the train to be read.

Unfortunately I haven't read the paper in weeks; I've been on uni break and so haven't had cause to read it. So no, I don't remember that particular quote - one of my favourites, however, was:

A: "Oh god, I think I said this quote that's in Overheard!"
B: "Guess what's going to be in next week's edition."
